Kiddle is a kidsafe search engine. If you search for individual countries it will produce an excellent 'facts for kids' result which includes history, people and culture, geographical information, images, maps and more. The image below will take you to an example for Indonesia.
The Australia's Guide website has an excellent section on Geographic features. It provides overview information and images of Australia's islands, highest mountain, longest river etc. To the right it has a selection box to find similar information on a state by state basis.
