This is a series of 8 short videos on opinion writing. Each video is between 1-2 minutes in duration and the videos cover an overview of what opinion writing is, planning and selecting a topic though to a break down of each stage of the opinion piece.
You may want to consider embedding these resources before making them accessible to students or using a tool such as ViewPure to show the videos without ads and comments.
Scootle has many resources on persuasive writing. This video series was located by using the filters to search by year group 5-6 and limited the results to videos. This video series covers conducting research, writing counterarguments, using creativity and humour, appealing to audience emotion and more. They usually require access through ClickView but are accessible if you have logged in to Scootle. (Access is free but you must sign up).
I have included one video here but you will need to search Scootle as suggested above to see the full set of videos.
EnhanceTV is available to you through Connect - Library Resources - Primary Library Databases. Be sure to click on the link so that you are automatically logged in (not the logo). This episode of The Text Files explores TV Ads. Devices such as the dialogue, characters, setting, colours, music and words on-screen are examined to discover how TV advertising influences the way we view the products being advertised. Repetition, reinforcement, logos and slogans will also be explored as further techniques of persuasion.
